The Martlet quickly became the benchmark for college magazines within Oxford University. By combining several publications into an elegant and engaging magazine, Univ significantly raised the bar in student, alumni and staff communications.
B&M has worked on The Martlet from its conceptual origins back in 2014, even developing ideas for the title. We consulted on the overall look, feel and tone before evolving the initial concepts into the finished article that has been incredibly well-received by the old members of the college.
In 2017 the first redesign was undertaken, with significant changes made to the typography and structure of the magazine to appeal to a broad audience and engage both young and old members. The new look is quite a departure from the old style, with more graphics, white space and modern typography. We also switched to an uncoated stock, giving a tactile and contemporary feel.
We not only design every issue but print and mail it all over the world. The Martlet now has a sister publication, Univ Futures, also designed, printed and mailed by B&M.
