University College has been publishing its bi-annual Martlet Magazine (also designed, printed and mailed by B&M) since 2014. To keep things fresh and focus on donations for the college, Univ replaced the winter issue with a new donor impact magazine: Univ Futures.
Having worked with Univ for so long producing one of the flagship college magazines, Univ chose B&M to design the new magazine. With our years of experience of their brand, readership, required tone and all our production expertise, they knew we'd hit the brief and deliver a fantastic product.
The new magazine needed to look and feel like a Univ publication but still needed its own identity. After exploring various design concepts, a circular theme was chosen, with all the typographic elements directly carried over from The Martlet. By keeping the same size, stock and binding as The Marlet, Univ Futures instantly fit alongside their other publications.
With less text and more photos, graphs and infographics, Univ Futures' is quite different to The Martlet. Bold splashes of colour contrast beautifully against the white space, and the circular theme gave us a fantastic platform for engaging creative layouts.
Giving a voice to those that have benefitted from college donations was another significant factor. Highlighting the students who received scholarships and awards would see the real world difference a contribution could make. Punchy images and elegantly displayed pull quotes quickly tell the individual stories of each beneficiary.
The mailing also included a donor roll listing those that donated to the college that year. B&M managed the whole job from start to finish; design, print, mailing and fulfilment.
